This course provides excellent opportunities for students to develop a range of performance, compositional and Music Appreciation skills and techniques. For students who enjoy learning a musical instrument, who are actively involved in the numerous music extra-curricular clubs and enjoy performing in concerts and shows, this course is an ideal option.
Assessment and Course Outline :
Understanding music 40%: 90 minute written examination with listening and analysis questions
Performing Music 30% : 1 Solo Performance & 1 Ensemble Performance
Composing Music 30% : 2 Compositions with appraisals, 1 to a brief and 1 free composition
What else will I be doing?
In addition to the course, you have the option to enjoy weekly tuition on an instrument of your choice (cost involved), you will be actively involved in a variety of music extra-curricular clubs, you will be able to perform in numerous shows and concerts and you will be invited on a number of music trips to experience live music and performances in a variety of contexts.
This course may lead to the study of A Level Music and BTEC Level 3 Music and Performing Arts Courses. A GCSE Music Qualification also prepares students for employment in their chosen career.
Music provides many extra-curricular activities which seek to foster imagination and creativity, promoting personal, social, spiritual, moral and cultural development. These include a Gospel Choir, Funk Band, Clarinet Ensemble, ‘Repercussions’ Percussion Ensemble, Composing Club, Music Theory Club and a Music Production Club/Recording Studio Club.
Intervention classes are also available to students at Key Stages 4 to support them with both their practical and theoretical work, and all students are encouraged to undertake independent practice.
Various high profile performances and shows are produced throughout the year, in order for students to gain as much large audience performance exposure as possible.
