Who are “The Friends”? The Friends of St. Andrew’s is a registered charity and is run by parents of pupils of St. Andrew’s school. The committee is elected annually at our AGM which is held on the same evening as the Year 7 Open Evening. All parents, pupils and staff and, of course, “Friends” are welcome to attend.
What do we do? We form an important part of the school community and provide a valuable service to the many activities that take place during the year. Our primary role is to raise funds for the school and over the years we have provided items as diverse as minibuses, computer equipment, uniform, sports and photographic equipment.
The majority of our funds are raised through providing a catering service to accompany the various activities of the school. We provide refreshments at the parents evenings and for the many drama, dance and music events throughout the year. This year we have also run a raffle in conjunction with the spring production, Starstruck.
June was an extremely busy month for the Friends. At the beginning of the month we supported the Year 10 Ambassadors Quiz night. Fun was had by all including the year 10 students who put together a very professional quiz. We served refreshments at the Junior Presentation evening and New Parents BBQ. For the first time the Friends held a Car Boot Sale on the hottest day of the year so far. This event for a first attempt was well supported and had a great atmosphere. We hope to make this a yearly event.
Over the year we have supported the parents forum events and parent evenings for each year group, the Year 6 evening, Winter Warmer and Rush concerts, the Celebration of Christmas and Starstruck and the Senior Presentation evening.
Donations to the school: This academic year we have already donated almost £1,000 to the School for the purchase of two camcorders and projectors. The main aim of our current fund-raising is to help with the cost of a Kiln.
Look out for us now at all our events you won’t be able to miss us in our newly designed T-shirts. Thank you to Hewitt’s for sponsoring and supplying the T- shirts. Our thanks go to Mrs O’Connor for working so hard on this project and also to the two students who designed our new logo they are Arinola Akande and Joseph Scrase.
The Friends’ first event back after the summer break will be the AGM in October.
